Sleek and elegant Trakehner mare by the lovely stallion Pajou, bred by Ricarda Barton at Castell Imperator Hof. Pajou was described at his stallion approval as a “black stallion of the elegant riding horse type with large frame, typey exterior and a very beautiful face with large eyes.” He was by Avignon II, a son of the thoroughbred mare Arcticonius xx, arguably the best Thoroughbred mare ever to be used in a German Warmblood breeding program. Avignon II was a full brother to Arogno, who left a significant impact in the Trakehner breed. The dam of Pegasus is the royally-bred Dancing in the Sun xx, whose pedigree includes 9 black-type winners in the first three generations (6 out of 8 ancestors). She has seven crosses to the great St Simon xx, three to Phalaris xx, and three to Teddy xx, bred at Haras de Jardy by Edmond Blanc.

Breeding Notes

Pegasus has correct conformation, with a strong foundation, great feet, and a long frame. She has a medium-set neck, good pillar of support, long, somewhat straight shoulders, steep-angled humerus, equal alignment between her ilium and femur sides, average stifle placement, and fair alignment between her point of hip and the lumbosacral gap. Points to correct include less angle to her hocks, more slope to her shoulder, and less angle in her lumbosacral alignment.

At her evaluation the judges praised her type, strong feet, and temperament. Her walk was judged as adequate with a need for more overstride and impulsion (6), her trot as correct with good engagement from the hindquarters and flexion (7), and her canter as balanced (7).
