Oldenburg Warmblood
OLDENBURG VERBAND
Morricone III / Raymeister / Sunset Trail xx
Montague JSI is a 2025 colt bred for modern sport with versatility, combining the elasticity and rideability of Morricone III with the balance, canter quality, and structural integrity of the Oldenburg NA mare R Juliet. He represents the Annorien philosophy of breeding horses that are correct first, expressive second, and durable always.
Montague’s movement prioritizes rhythm and balance over display. His trot is flat, flowing, and ground-covering, with elasticity that remains contained rather than expansive. This quality makes the trot highly suitable for the hunter and equitation rings, while still providing the correct mechanics required for systematic dressage development. The canter is his defining strength: uphill, adjustable, and consistently three-beat, with an ease of balance that reflects the mare’s proven transmission of canter quality.
Structurally, Montague shows a well-connected topline, correct limb placement, and substance appropriate to his frame. He is neither light nor coarse. His balance remains stable in motion, and refinement from the sire has not compromised durability or coordination.
Temperament is a notable strength and closely aligned with Annorien’s breeding objectives. Montague is highly people-oriented, confident, and exceptionally friendly, consistently choosing to engage with humans and comfortable standing quietly for handling and interaction. He shows a strong desire to cooperate, learns quickly, and responds thoughtfully to new requests. He is currently being educated in all foundational skills, including leading, standing, tying, and farrier handling, and demonstrates a calm, willing attitude throughout this process. These qualities strongly support long-term rideability and ease of training as demands increase.
Montague JSI is being developed as a dual-discipline prospect, suitable for hunter, equitation, or dressage foundations. He is bred to improve with strength and time rather than peak early, offering options rather than constraints as his training pathway becomes clear.
Breeding Context
Sire: Morricone III — elasticity, uphill balance, rideability
Dam: R Juliet (Oldenburg NA) — canter quality, bone, durability, and consistency of transmission
Breeding Focus: Balance first, expression second, longevity always
Annorien Perspective
Montague JSI reflects Annorien’s approach to sport-horse breeding:
clear canter, correct structure, and temperament that allows the horse to stay usable across disciplines. He is not intended to be defined narrowly at this stage, but rather to retain multiple viable pathways as his development continues.

Breeding Notes
The foal has two crosses to the stallion Rubinstein (a son and a daughter each in the fifth generation), leading to a blood percentage of 6.25%. Rubinstein comes from the Westphalian R-line founded by Ramzes X, who was of vast importance to warmblood breeding in the post-World War II period, founding a dynasty of show jumpers in Holstein and of dressage superstars in Westphalia. Two crosses to the renowned dressage sire Mahagoni through Millennium ensure rideability and lovely gaits. Finally, two crosses each to the black-type racing superstars Princequillo xx and Eight Thirty xx ensure outstanding athleticism. Princequillo xx won several important races at longer distances and broke the Saratoga Race Course record for 1¾ miles. He is considered to be the best long-distance runner, with the exception of Kelso, in American racing history. Eight Thirty xx was extraordinarily handsome horse, with 16 wins out of 27 starts, as well as 3 seconds and 5 thirds. After being retired to stud, he sired 44 stakes winners and was the damsire of 1962 Belmont Stakes winner Jaipur.
