Trakehner/Oldenburg Warmblood
TRAKEHNER ASSOCIATION OF NORTH AMERICA
Tzigane / Raymeister / Sunset Trail xx
Ragnar AN (barn name Tanner) is bred to master all three rings, with a Grand Prix showjumper as sire and a Grand Prix dressage champion as damsire. He is all about power, with superb hindquarters that show potential for both the showjumper’s push—required for takeoff and lift at the jump—as well as the sit required for advanced dressage movements like piaffe, passage, and canter pirouettes. He has long sloping shoulders, nicely muscled limbs with strong prominent joints, and inherited his sire’s elegant high-set neck and regal head carriage. Best of all, his temperament is brave, curious, and friendly; he loves interacting with humans and already exhibits an independent yet trusting nature. Tanner is the type of horse that will not refuse a jump, whether cross-country or stadium, and will get his rider to the other side no matter what, whether you get the striding and distance perfectly or you’re way off and need a rescue.
Tanner’s sire is Tzigane, a premium Trakehner stallion bred by Antares Trakehners who had a successful Grand Prix jumping career in Germany. Tzigane’s sireline comes from the Antares foundation stallion Graditz *E* and goes to the stallion Tempelhüter by Perfectionist, heavily used at the Trakehnen Stud in East Prussia. Tzigane’s damsire is the Grand Prix dressage stallion Condus, whose sire is the legendary stallion Ramzes X (Anglo-Arabian), famous for establishing the R-line of international-caliber jumpers in Holstein, which includes the Olympic gold medalist in showjumping Ratina Z, and the R-line of dressage horses in Westphalia, which includes three-time Olympic gold medalist Rembrandt. To this day, Ramzes blood is prized by breeders of both showjumping and dressage horses.
Tanner’s dam is R-Juliet, a daughter of the Grand Prix dressage stallion Raymeister, also descended from the Holsteiner R-line. In his long career, Raymeister won three USDF horse of the Year titles, 17 Regional Championships, 23 All Breed Awards, two USEF National Titles, and won Gold representing the United States at the FEI Young rider World Cup.

OLDENBURG WARMBLOOD
BORN 2004
BREEDER: KEN BORDEN, JR
Breeding Notes
Ragnar AN has two crosses to the stallion Ramzes X (one son each in the fourth and seventh generation), leading to a blood percentage of 7%. Ramzes X, as mentioned, was of vast importance to warmblood breeding in the post-World War II period, founding a dynasty of show jumpers in Holstein and of dressage superstars in Westphalia. Moreover, seven crosses to the famous Trakehner stallion Pythagoras and ten crosses to Tempelhüter nicely round out the pedigree, ensuring rideability and hardiness. Finally, two crosses each to the black-type racing superstars Princequillo xx and Eight Thirty xx ensure outstanding athleticism. Princequillo xx won several important races at longer distances and broke the Saratoga Race Course record for 1¾ miles. He is considered to be the best long-distance runner, with the exception of Kelso, in American racing history. Eight Thirty xx was extraordinarily handsome horse, with 16 wins our of 27 starts, as well as 3 seconds and 5 thirds. After being retired to stud, he sired 44 stakes winners and was the damsire of 1962 Belmont Stakes winner Jaipur.
