Pajou was described at his stallion approval as “a black stallion of the elegant riding horse type with large frame, typey exterior and a very beautiful face with large eyes.” He descends from Avignon II, a son of the Thoroughbred mare Arcticonius xx—arguably the most influential Thoroughbred mare ever used in a German Warmblood breeding program. Avignon II was a full brother to Arogno, who left significant impact in the Trakehner breed.
