Amadeus

Amadeus (ORSA-062115) is a chestnut Russian sport horse gelding, combining the rare Orlov-Rostopchin bloodline of Iskusnik with the proven American Thoroughbred stamina of the Bold Reason and Hail to Reason lines.

The Pedigree

Amadeus’s sire, Boris of Solstice, is a Black Russian stallion standing 16.1hh, bred by Barbara Weber. He is by Pajou — the first ATA-approved son of Avignon II, a full brother to the German Elite Stallion Arogno — out of Luna of Solstice, a direct daughter of Iskusnik, the Elite-1 Orlov-Rostopchin stallion whose 1996 import founded the North American population of the breed. Boris carries 25% of Iskusnik’s blood, one of only a small number of horses in North America still carrying that bloodline forward.

Amadeus’s dam, Jimmy’s Last Dance xx, is unraced herself, though her sire, Bold James xx, sired 22 foals to racing age with $179,105 in combined earnings. Three generations back, the line reaches Bold Reason xx — winner of the 1971 Travers Stakes and sire of 21 stakes winners — himself by Hail to Reason xx, 1960 Champion 2-Year-Old and leading American sire of 1970.

Conformation & Type

Standing 17.0h, Amadeus presents a rangy, long-legged frame with 21.5cm of bone. He shows a scopey jump and lovely gaits, the kind of ground-covering, uphill movement that suits a career over fences.

Development & Future

Amadeus is currently in training for the hunters. He is quiet to mount and calm to ride, though his ground manners still need work. Coggins and vaccines are up to date; a pre-purchase exam is pending. Given his scope and gaits, he is well suited to a competitive hunter career.
