Percy’s sire is Bugatti Eclat SH, a chestnut Shagya-Arabian stallion candidate bred by Shelley Child at Sterling Shagyas and standing at Annorien Sporthorses. His pedigree concentrates Bábolna foundation genetics through strategic linebreeding: Gazal VII appears eight times, the Elite mare Bábolna (O’Bajan XIII-12) appears three times, and six VZAP Elite ancestors appear within six generations. His grandsire Carol also sired Alto de Traclin, who achieved World #1 ranking in FEI Endurance in 2022. Bugatti will be presented for Shagya breeding approval this year, as well as for warmblood breeding through the North American Stallion Sport Test. His sireline O’Bajan is renown for trainability, harmonious proportions, and strong substance.

Percy’s dam is Pegasus of Solstice, a rare daughter of Pajou, a product of the famed Castell Imperator Hof, started by the Barton family upon their emigration from East Prussia to the United States. Pajou was described at his stallion approval as a black stallion of the elegant riding horse type with large frame, typey exterior and a very beautiful face with large eyes. He was by Avignon II, a full brother to Arogno, who became one of the most influential post-war Trakehner sires. The sireline traces through Flaneur to the Polish Arabian Fetysz ox at Janow Stud, recognized as the Trakehner breed’s most valued dressage line.

Through Pegasus’s dam Dancing in the Sun xx, Percy is descended from one of the greatest racehorses of the 20th century, Northern Dancer xx, through his son Northern Mystic xx. In the first four generations of her pedigree, Dancing in the Sun xx has fourteen Black-Type winners, among them Northern Dancer xx, Ribot xx (undefeated, twice winner of the Arc de Triomphe), Native Dancer xx (21-1-0), and Nearco xx (also undefeated). She completed forty-six career starts before transitioning successfully to riding work.

Pegasus is beautiful, elegant, and athletic, with a lovely temperament: we’ve put children and beginners on her back and she’s always been gentle and considerate, taking good care of them and giving them confidence. She’s also highly people-oriented and loves spending time with her humans. At twenty-two years of age she remains sound with clean joints and good muscle tone.

Percy’s phenotype favors the dam: Trakehner type predominates, and the projected height of 16.2hh or above maintains the frame established by Pegasus’s Trakehner sire Pajou (16.3hh). The observed canter is light-footed, balanced, and uphill, confirming transmission of Bugatti’s gait genetics; the good jump validates the aptitude noted in Karol du Cavallon at NASS inspection. Both parents carry trainability genetics from their respective sirelines—Flaneur and O’Bajan—and both have validated that emphasis through offspring performance.

Percy’s pedigree is similar in architecture to that of Lily Creek Kong, a half-Shagya, half-Trakehner/Thoroughbred gelding bred by Donna Coss at Lily Creek Ridge in Illinois. Kong (by the Shagya stallion Dante out of Lily Creek My Secret, by the Trakehner Lafayette) has become one of the most accomplished endurance horses in North America: four Tevis completions, sixteen 100-mile finishes, 27 Best Condition awards, 24 wins, over 2,885 AERC miles, a Decade Team member, and winner of the 2023 AERC National Championship 100-mile race. Like Percy, Kong combines Shagya-Arabian metabolic efficiency with Trakehner frame and Thoroughbred blood. His career validates the cross.

Percy is expected to reach 16.2hh and will be slated for a career in eventing and hunters.
