C-Foal 2026

Partbred Shagya-Arabian x Holsteiner foal due 2026, bred for eventing and showjumping

Shagya-Arabian/Holsteiner Cross

NORTH AMERICAN SHAGYA-ARABIAN SOCIETY
Bugatti Eclat SH / Cassini II / Carpaccio

The foal’s sire Bugatti Eclat SH (Flash) combines world-class endurance lines with impeccable US foundation stock. His sire Karol du Cavallon was imported from France, from the famed endurance farm La Ferme du Cavallon. Led by international FEI rider Gabriela von Felten—ranked 35th in the world in 2022—the Cavallon program is world-renown as a center for Shagya breeding. Karol is a 15’3h chestnut by the endurance champion Carol, who competed internationally to FEI 2* level. Karol and his sire Carol are both beautiful and intelligent, combining athleticism and a competitive spirit with a gentle temperament. They have lovely movement with a forward, ground-covering trot with nice suspension and balance. As a sire, Carol produced Alto de Traclin, ranked number one in the world for FEI Endurance in 2022.

Flash’s dam Bajara Silver SH was bred by Shelley Child at Sterling Shagyas. Bajara is by Sterling Silver AF, who combined the blood of Shandor and Oman, two foundation Shagya stallions in the US. Sterling was the highest-scoring stallion at his NASS Inspection tour, and has produced athletic, versatile offspring, including 12 purebred Shagyas. He passes on bone, height, outstanding movement, and a kind, willing temperament. Bajara is also approved for Trakehner breeding.

Flash’s pedigree is especially interesting in the third and fourth generations, with sex-balanced  linebreeding to O’Bajar through the full brothers Osiris (sire of Carol) and Oman (sire of Sapphire). This essentially doubles O’Bajar’s influence with the added genetic diversity of full brothers producing both male and female siblings in blood. O’Bajar is significant as one of the best sons of Bajar, one of the all-time greats of the breed—sire of 24 approved stallions, including the licensed stallion Bachus in Holstein. Bachus’ dam Olympia was by Rasputin, an R-line stallion linebred to the famous Ramzes X, an Anglo-Arabian who jumped 1.50 and sired a dynasty of jumpers in Holstein and dressage world champions in Westfalen. Bachus therefore brings together two Shagya-Arabian stalwarts: Bajar and Ramzes X. This experiment is repeated with this foal, as the dam Cascarpa has two lines to Ramzes X through her sire Cassini II by Capitol I, which include the blue hen Holsteiner mares Folia and Vase, plus a further two lines through Carpaccio and Caretino, and a final line through her dam’s dam Isabelle II. This distills the best of Holsteiner’s Shagya heritage for a new F1 cross back to a Shagya-Arabian stallion.

The foal’s dam Cascarpa brings not only Holsteiner royalty to the breeding, but as mentioned above, combines it with their already-successful injections of Shagya-Arabian blood. Cascarpa was bred in Germany, where she competed to 1.20m with an amateur, and was later exported to the Czech Republic before finally arriving in the US to compete as a hunter. She is a substantial mare with a large frame and lovely, floating gaits inherited from her damsire Carpaccio and her dam’s damsire, the Grand Prix stallion Loutano. Her sire Cassini II was a full brother to the renowned international competitor Cassini I. The Cassini brother were “the result of the breeding policy of one of those fabled traditional farmers—Johann Hermann Claussen, who ran two broodmares on his 140 hectare mixed farm. He sent his three-year-old mare, Wisma to the local stallion, Capitol I. The mare was by Caletto II out of a mare line that featured the Marlon xx son, Mahmud. The grey colt, Cassini I was born on April 1, 1988. Bred to Capitol again the next year, Wisma produced a filly, Donata. In 1992, she gave birth to Cassini II, who was injured after placing third in his performance test, and sent to the breeding barn where he produced a series of jumping competitors, including Holger Wulschner’s Cassius, Thies Luther’s Cassilo and Steffen Lutter’s Capriolo. Cassini II’s licensed son, Camarque was sold to Denmark for €230,000, where he was the showjumping champion of the Danish stallion approvals.

Top competitors by Cassini II include Steve Guerdat’s Athens finalist, Isovlas Olympic, Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst’s Casello, Chatwin ridden formerly by the Swiss, Christoph Barbeau and now for Brazil by Alvaro de Miranda Neto, who also rides AD Baltic Carrera, Pikeur Calanda with Franz-Josef Dahlmann and Peter Wylde’s Inken. Cassini II was unfortunately euthanized in 2011 after he injured himself, but not before proving himself a superior producer than his older brother.” From The Horse Magazine.

Breeding Notes

Although an F1, the foal comes from two consolidated pedigrees that each contribute to the qualities we expect. The two primary duplications are the Holsteiner stalwart Caletto II in the 4th and 5th generation at 9%, and the Shagya-Arabian foundation stallion Shandor in the 4th and 6th generation at almost 8%. According to Christopher Hector, “Caletto II was a sensation right from the start and was acclaimed Champion of his stallion licensing in 1980—he was considered the perfect Holsteiner type. He also showed wonderful jumping technique, and later proved this in the showjumping ring with Herbert Blöcker, where the stallion won many tests for riding horses.”

He was described thus in the Stallion Book of the Holsteiner Warmblood Breed by Dr Dietrich Rossow: “Significant stallion of Thoroughbred, performance type. Harmonious and deep bodied. Smooth topline, Slightly herring gutted. Muscling not well let down through the haunches. Clean, correct legs and feet. Good walk and trot, absolutely marvellous canter. Very good jumper. Extraordinary form over fences, brilliant with knees. Good temperament.”

Other Holsteiner greats in the foal’s pedigree include Ladykiller xx, Cor de la Bryère, and the Anglo-Arabian Ramzes X, discussed above. Three lines to Bajar in the 6th and 7th generation should enhance the fresh infusion of Shagya-Arabian blood contributed by Flash.
