Penelope JSI

Purebred Shagya-Arabian foal born July 2026, bred for the hunters

Shagya-Arabian

NORTH AMERICAN SHAGYA-ARABIAN SOCIETY
Bugatti Eclat SH / Wineglass Ominous / Murad

Penelope JSI (Penny) is a lovely purebred chestnut filly born June 20, 2026. She has a refined, elegant head with a medium neck, a short back and an uphill build, as well as long correct legs. Unlike her forward and confident dam and uterine sister Poppy JSI, Penny is shy, gentle, and calm, with an easy and submissive temperament.

Bugatti Eclat SH is a purebred Shagya-Arabian stallion, born October 23, 2022, in the United States, bred by Shelley Child, and standing at Annorien Sporthorses in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His sire, Karol du Cavallon, is a French-bred Shagya-Arabian by Carol (Italy, 1995) out of Kohelia (Germany, 1992)—a pedigree rooted in the endurance and long-distance racing tradition that produced some of the most durable and metabolically efficient horses in the breed’s modern history. Carol competed successfully in FEI endurance and produced nearly 90 foals, recognized as the progenitor of successful endurance horses; his son Alto de Traclin achieved the world number one ranking in FEI endurance in 2022. Karol du Cavallon himself was approved Book I at his NASS inspection with scores of 9 for type, 9 for neck, and 9 for walk, and was specifically noted for good jumping ability and good bascule. Kohelia’s dam Koheilan XXVI-9 carries the Koheilan desert blood that Frielinghaus identified as a consistent source of the breed’s “dry bone” quality and resistance to soft tissue stress under sustained work. Bugatti’s dam, Bajara Silver SH (USA, 2016, 15.0h/153cm), is by Sterling Silver AF out of Brook PFF. Sterling Silver AF is a son of *Shandor—the 16.1h stallion whose “big, powerful, elastic movements,” “superior jumping ability,” and unusual size for a purebred Shagya-Arabian made him the defining performance sire of his generation in North America—out of Sapphire (by Oman × Szikra). Sterling Silver AF was the highest-scoring stallion at his NASS inspection, averaging 8.13 with Walk 9 and Trot 9. Brook PFF is by Bold Bravo AF (Hungarian Bravo × Aminah) out of Bridget (Almos × Bravita AF), concentrating the Hungarian Bravo line that has been the primary size and frame engine in the North American Shagya-Arabian population. Through Bajara Silver SH, Bugatti carries *Shandor in the third generation and Hungarian Bravo in the fourth—the two ancestors most directly responsible for the warmblood-scale frame and elastic movement that define the breed’s modern sport horse apex. Bugatti Eclat SH is registered NASS/ShA-22-330 and is currently in his first proven crop, preparing for his 2026 inspection.

Backwoods Perfect (“Edie”) is a purebred Shagya-Arabian mare, born April 21, 2016, in the United States, bred by Holly and Andrew Haddenham. She stands 15.3h (160cm) with 19.5cm bone. Her sire, Wineglass Ominous, is by Oman (by O’Bajar, 16h, Germany 1982) out of Wineglass Madeira; from this paternal line Edie inherits elegance, toughness, and jump, including the influence of Bajar—one of the few Shagya-Arabians whose jumping talent was recognized by the Holsteiner Verband, which licensed him for use in warmblood breeding. Her dam, RAA’s Perry, is by Murad (by Shaman/Sharif D, by Pamino/O’Bajan XX) out of Philomena (by Jeremias out of Pythia). From the well-known dressage-bred stallions Shagal, Shaman, and Amor she inherits height, bone, and movement quality. From Gazal VII she inherits the elasticity and scope the line is documented to produce across every generation. Edie is highly people-oriented, kind, and gentle, with easy rideability characteristic of the O’Bajan temperament inheritance. At her TANA inspection she received 52.5 points, was appointed premium mare candidate, and High Point non-Trakehner mare, approved Book 1.

Edie has produced two purebred Shagya-Arabian foals prior to this mating: a 2024 colt by Wineglass Dionysus (Max / Budapest / Atmandu ox), and a 2025 filly by Rio Bravo AF (Janos / Hungarian Bravo / Alcibiades ox)—the latter is Poppy JSI, currently projected to exceed 16.1h. This production record confirms that Edie carries size genetics that are not limited by her own 15.3h phenotype.

Penny unites the *Shandor/Hungarian Bravo size architecture of Bugatti’s dam line with the Gazal VII/O’Bajar/Bajar jump mechanics of Edie’s paternal line, producing a pedigree with 21 crosses to Gazal VII and meaningful concentrations of Oman (15.63%, 4×4), Shandor (7.81%, 5×5), and Bartok (7.81%, 5×5, AGR 18.4%). The COI of 4.455% reflects purposeful linebreeding without genetic bottleneck.

Breeding Notes

The structural centerpiece of this cross is the convergence of two independent size-and-scope architectures: Bugatti’s *Shandor/Hungarian Bravo dam line and Edie’s Oman/O’Bajar/Bajar paternal line. Oman is the highest-influence ancestor in the pedigree at 15.63% blood (4×4, AGR 23.7%), appearing once through Bugatti’s Sapphire (dam of Sterling Silver AF) and once directly through Edie’s sire Wineglass Ominous. This Oman concentration is the primary size anchor for Penelope’s projected frame. Alongside Oman, the Bajar inheritance—7.81% blood, AGR 9.7%—carries the Holsteiner-validated jump mechanics that distinguish Edie’s paternal line from a purely dressage-type foundation.

Bugatti contributes *Shandor in generation 3 (7.81% blood, 13.7% Influence) and the Bartok line through Brook PFF’s Bold Bravo AF (Hungarian Bravo × Aminah). Bartok carries the highest AGR in the pedigree at 18.4%, indicating a disproportionately large genetic contribution relative to his generational position—his documented traits of massive topline, large muscles, and strong coupling are positioned to express strongly in Penelope. The Gazal VII concentration—21 crosses, 14.84% blood—is the movement engine: Frielinghaus documented Gazal VII’s sons as consistently superior in athletic elasticity and jumping potential at hard performance tests, and his 21-cross saturation in this pedigree functions as the mechanism through which scope and suspension are fixed across generations.

Edie’s canter limitation (6.5) is the honest structural risk in this cross. Bugatti’s dam Bajara Silver SH carries the *Shandor hindquarter engagement that characterizes his dam line’s collected gaits, which is positioned to address the coupling weakness implied by Edie’s score; however, whether this correction expresses in Penelope requires the filly’s own assessment. The Bartok AGR of 18.4%—the highest in the table—provides the topline reinforcement mechanism, but its effect on Penelope’s canter is an open question until she is backed and ridden.

The breeding goal is a purebred Shagya-Arabian with the constitutional durability of the O’Bajan/Bajar line, the size architecture of the *Shandor/Hungarian Bravo maternal inheritance, the elastic movement of the Gazal VII concentration, and the cooperative, amateur-suitable temperament required for an eventing career. Penelope is the first foal by Bugatti Eclat SH out of an Annorien program mare and represents the program’s first direct test of Bugatti’s prepotency for sport horse type at the cross section of French endurance and North American warmblood-Shagya breeding.
